If you’re not a British or Irish citizen, you will need to generate a Share Code online which you can supply to Step Teachers to verify your right to work in the UK.
A Share Code can be used to confirm the types of work that you’re allowed to do in the UK, as well as how long you are eligible to work in the UK.
To generate a share code, please visit: https://right-to-work.service.gov.uk/rtw-prove
Who can get a Share Code?
You can get a Share Code if you have a:
- Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) - this can be expired
- Biometric Residence Card (BRC)
- UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account
You will have a UKVI account if you’ve ever done one of the following:
- Applied to the EU Settlement Scheme
- Used the ‘UK Immigration: ID Check’ app to verify your identity
- Created an account when applying for a Visa
- Created an account to get access to an eVisa
What if I can’t generate a Share Code?
You may be unable to generate a Share Code for various reasons. For example, you have an outstanding appeal, review, or application with the Home Office.
In these circumstances, Step Teachers will use the Employer Checking Service to ask the Home Office to confirm your immigration status.
