If you have lived continuously in one country outside of the United Kingdom for a period of 6 months or more in the last 5 years you will need to obtain a Police Check from that country to be able to register and work with Step Teachers.
Different countries have different processes for obtaining a Police Check and different turnaround times for these. Please see the link below to find the details of how to process a Police Check from each specific country: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/criminal-records-checks-for-overseas-applicants
Depending on the country, this can be known as Police Clearance Certificate, Character Certificate, No Criminal Record Certificate, Non-Criminal Record, Good Conduct Certificate, Police Check, Clearance Certificate, or Criminal History Record Check
For us to be able to use the Police Check you already have, it will need to be dated a minimum of 3 months before you moved to the UK or any time after. For example, if you arrived in the UK on the 6th of April 2024, the Police Check would need to be dated on or after the 6th of January 2024.
The UK DBS or ACRO check does not replace the need for an Overseas Police Check.
