I can't find my British or Irish Birth Certificate.

If you have lost or misplaced your birth certificate, you can request a replacement.

A birth certificate is a valid document for verifying your right to work in the UK, particularly if you do not have a valid British or Irish passport. To complete your registration with Step Teachers, you’ll need to provide either the original certificate or a replacement copy, along with valid proof of your National Insurance number.

You can order an official replacement birth certificate online through the UK and Irish government websites:

Order a Replacement Birth Certificate – Gov.UK

Order a replacement Irish birth certificate - HSE.ie

When ordering, you’ll need to provide:

  • Your full name as it appears on the certificate
  • Place and date of birth
  • Parents’ full names (if known)
  • Approximate year of registration
  • Whether you want a full or short certificate (a full certificate is recommended for right to work checks)

You can choose standard or priority delivery. Costs and timescales vary depending on the option you select and where the certificate is being sent.
