Why is my DBS not valid?
If you have an existing DBS from another employer, it won't be valid with Step Teachers unless it's on the update service.
Our Compliance and Resource teams often have to deliver the disappointing news that an existing DBS certificate cannot be used with Step Teachers.
In most cases, this is because the DBS certificate is not registered on the Update Service, which means it is only valid for the original employer who conducted the check. But this can also be that your current legal name does not match the Forename(s) and Surname listed as your current name on the DBS Certificate.
As a result, you will need to obtain a new DBS certificate. Step Teachers can help you with this process to ensure everything is in place.
