What to Expect When You Register with Step Teachers
Learn more below about how our registration process works and how we support educators in finding long-term or permanent teaching roles.
Initial Call
Introduction to Step Teachers and discussion of your goals.- Qualifying Call: Speak with your Local Resource Consultant to assess eligibility. This call will last around 15 minutes so we can get to know you and your preferences.
- Next Steps:
- If qualified, the Application form and document checklist will be sent.
- If not qualified, guidance on potential next steps is needed.

Before your Video Call
- Complete and return your Application Form, ensuring all details are accurate.
You must also provide: - Required Documents:
- CV: 10-year work history (explain gaps over 3+ months).

- Right to Work Check:
- Yoti Check (for British/Irish Passport holders) OR
- Share code (with all other passport holders).
- Your Teacher Reference Number: This can be found on your QTS certificate.
- Qualifications: Proof of relevant qualifications (e.g., PGCE, Degree).
- References: Full details covering the last 2 years.
- Professional referees must be senior to you and contactable through a professional email address
- For any gaps in your employment of more than 3 months we will require the details of someone that you have known for a minimum of two years, who can provide you with a character reference.
- We will not request your references until you have been made an offer.
- Right to Work Check:

Video Call with your Resource Consultant
- Identity Verification: Screenshot with your consultant to confirm your Right to Work.
- Interview: Address any gaps in your employment, reasons for leaving or documentation to be provided in future.
- Next Steps: Compliance overview & vetting process explained.

- Call from a Compliance Consultant to confirm outstanding details.
- Vetting Process:

How you can help us, to help you
Interview with the School
You have now secured an interview at a school. You will now be informed of the time and day to attend, and whether that is face to face or remotely through teams.
Job Offer
We will require you to provide additional documentation if you successfully secure a new role with Step Teachers, or become available for supply work:

- Identification: 3 ID documents (Right to Work & Proof of Address).
- Enhanced DBS Check:
- Provide an existing paid for Enhanced Child Workforce DBS certificate (must be on the Update Service) OR
- Complete a Step Teachers DBS application.

- Overseas Police Check: Required if you lived abroad for 6+ months in the last 5 years.
- Letter of Professional Standing: For Qualified Overseas Trained Teachers.
- Fit to Teach letter: If required.
