Obtaining a Letter of Professional Standing

A Letter of Professional Standing (LOPS) confirms you are in good standing with the teaching authority of the country where you previously taught.

A Letter of Professional Standing (LOPS) is a document issued by the official teaching or regulatory authority in a country where you have previously taught. It confirms that you are in good standing and that no sanctions or restrictions have been placed on your right to teach.

You will need to provide a LOPS if you have:

  • Taught overseas within the last 5 years, or
  • Taught overseas more than 5 years ago and have not taught in the UK since

Every country has its own process for issuing this document, so you will need to contact the relevant teaching authority directly. Once you receive your LOPS, please send it to your Step Teachers consultant so we can complete your compliance checks.
