Accessing your Teacher Regulation Agency (TRA) account with DfE Identity

Step by step guide on how to gain access to your TRA account as a qualified teacher and update records that are held on you.

For the Teacher Regulation Agency (TRA) to provide the correct information to employers such as Step Teachers, you will need to keep an up-to-date record of your circumstances. Typically, this will be to update on any legal name changes. Below you will find a step by step guide on how to access your TRA account and update the records held on you. 

You can also download a digital copy of your QTS and induction certificate to pass on to employers.

Access the TRA account using your DfE Identity if you already have account, if not follow the steps below.

If you don't have an account:

  1. Open the link above and click sign in with DfE Identity
  2. Create an account
  3. Enter your email address
  4. Enter the confirmation code sent to your email address
  5. Enter a mobile number


  6. Enter the security code sent by text message
  7. Enter your name. This may be a maiden name or another name if changed by deed pole. It will be the name that the TRA currently have on record for you.
  8.  Choose your preferred name
  9. Enter your date of birth
  10. Enter your National Insurance number if you have one.
  11. Confirm what your National Insurance number is
  12. Confirm if you have a TRN (Teacher Reference Number), also known as your QTS/DfE number
  13. Enter your TRN
  14. Check the answers you have given are correct and click create account.
  15. You will now have created your account and be able to access the TRA website with your email address
  16. You will now have access to your account to amend your name and download certificates.
